P0172
System Too Rich (Bank 1)
Detailed Description
The ECM has detected that the Bank 1 mixture is too rich, with short-term and/or long-term fuel trim values reaching the lean compensation limit (typically -25%).
Possible Causes
Fuel injector leaking or dripping
Fuel pressure too high (pressure regulator failure)
MAF sensor over-reading (dirty sensor causing high signal)
Oxygen sensor falsely reporting lean
Canister purge valve stuck open
Throttle body excessively dirty
Spark plugs not firing properly.
Solutions & Repair Guide
Check if fuel injectors are leaking (observe for drips while maintaining fuel pressure); Measure fuel pressure; Check if the canister purge valve still conducts when in the closed state; Check if the MAF sensor is excessively dirty; Inspect spark plug condition.
