P0300

Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

Severity: High Ignition System Generic Code

Detailed Description

The ECM has detected misfires on multiple cylinders, and the misfire rate has exceeded the set threshold. Misfires cause unburned fuel to enter the exhaust system, which can damage the catalytic converter.

Possible Causes

Spark plugs aged or damaged (most common)
Ignition coil failure (especially on coil-on-plug designs)
Insufficient fuel pressure or poor fuel quality
Fuel injectors clogged or leaking
Intake manifold gasket leak
Incorrect valve clearance
Low cylinder compression
Incorrect timing.

Solutions & Repair Guide

This is a fault code that requires attention. First read if there are specific single-cylinder misfire codes (P0301-P0312); Check spark plug condition and verify correct part number; Swap ignition coils one at a time to determine if a coil is at fault; Measure fuel pressure; Check intake sealing; If the above is normal, perform a cylinder compression test and compression balance test. Avoid driving for extended periods with this code to prevent catalytic converter damage.
